I am passionate about contemporary art. The eclectic nature of my experiences, interests
and skills is reflected in my artwork that includes: mixed media/ installation sculpture,
digital photography/ photo illustration, egg-painting, and 3D bookmaking- writing/ construction.
xxxxxxMy current work employs books as the physical media, subject and as metaphor.

In mixed media sculpture I use a wide
variety of materials- both man-made
and natural. I have also used photographic
imagery.

The Whatcom Museum of Art and History, Bellingham, WA
presented Site Specific,
an exhibition of Installation Art of five Northwest artists.
For this show, I created an installation of mixed media sculpture
together with "photos of the imagination."
Below are a few photos from my installation.

About a decade ago I began using photographic imagery in my sculpture. My explorations have taken me in several additional directions including what I call
Photo Imagination.

In July, 2006, the City of Bellingham,WA granted me a permit to produce an art installation
along the sidewalks of 27 linear blocks of the Downtown core.
On September 10, 2006, a community of people gathered together and drew 42 Months, 2,664 life-size chalk outlines of human beings. Each outline symbolized a U.S. serviceperson who,
as of that date, had given his or her life in the Iraq war.
|
The installation was a tribute to and a recognition of their and their families' sacrifices.
It was my intention to bring together many different individuals to help all of us
visualize the enormity of this loss, both as a community and a nation.
We created art---and community.

These eggs were "painted" using a traditional
Ukrainian folk art, Pysanka. This is a Batik-like
process of applying wax, dyeing the egg
and then repeating the process through a series of colors. For the most part I employ non-traditional designs. While I don't focus
my attention in this direction consistently,
I so enjoy these beautiful little gems.
