PHOTO Restoration, Color Correction and Wild Fantasy

As you can see above, this family portrait has seen better days.
Its surface was badly damaged with red paint and it has faded.

Restoration tip: The image was scanned in as a color RGB image.
In the Channels pallette in Photoshop, I chose the "best" rendition among
the red, green and blue channels. I then changed the mode (image/mode)
to grayscale and did most of the restoration with the patch tool.

Color Correction
When introduced into the digital world,
a vast majority of images need some level
of Color Correction.
This is particularly true with older photos
which are not always stored under
optimal conditions.

In some cases a single color correction
can be made which successfully resolves
the color problems of the image as a whole.

In other cases, as in the photo on the left
of the screen, various color corrections
were made to each of several different
selections. Age had faded all of the photo.
In addition, the flash had washed out the
color of the three figures on the right,
while for some reason, not the figure
on the left.

To institute these changes I employed
on various selections Photoshop's
adjustments including: Levels
(overall and color channels),
Curves, and Hue and Saturation.

Using Photoshop tools to express and
stretch your imagination is great fun.
Here I have combined parts of several
photos to dream up a landscape
I call home.
